Those who have already enjoyed Mrs. Correll’s stories and books are familiar with her vividly rich descriptions of people, places and emotions will not be disappointed with her latest novella. Her plots are exquisitely woven to incorporate ancient Japanese culture with beauty and horror into her tales.
• Well told fantasy/horror story. Ms. Correll has found her literary voice, but the very last scene was unnecessary to that story. I don't object to gay sex, but I object to gratuitous sex, either gay or straight, which does not advance the tale.
• I loved Peony Lanters. The story is like a roller-coaster, fast-paced but now and then, it slows down just enough to let you catch your breath before accelerating in such a way that you don't want the ride to ever end.
